The first stage of consultation is over and the possible ways to set up new local Councils in our area are now open to us, the local people to say what we want. The full consultation document and response forms are at http://www.lgrnotts.org The deadline is 26th March.
The three options are called 1b, 1e and Bii. We strongly recommend 1e.
1a would put our Borough, Gedling and the Borough of Broxtowe in with the City of Nottingham. The rest of Nottinghamshire, (even West Bridgford) would form a single separate Council. This plan is supported by two of the current councils.
1e would put the City, Broxtowe and Rushcliffe together as one council, and combine Gedling, Bassetlaw, Mansfield Ashfield and Newark-and-Sherwood to form one council for the non-city parts of the county. This plan is supported by four current Councils including our own Gedling Borough Council.
Bii is proposed by the present City Council and would add selected bits from Browtowe Rushcliffe and Gedling with the the City as a single Council and leave the rest as the other council. Burton Joyce would be included with the City. Only the City Council supports this option.
Burton Joyce Village Society held a well-attended public meeting last year. Local people voted 100% against any plan that would include us with the the City. That means only Option 1e is acceptable.
