Proposed Council Changes
The Government is going to abolish Gedling Borough Council. And Nottinghamshire County Council too. The County Council elections will go ahead on May 1st this year, but when the current Borough and District Councils complete their term in 2027 there will be no more elections for them and new organisations will take over.
The plan is to abolish the County Council, all seven Borough/District Councils within it, and the City Council, and set up two new all-purpose Councils completely separate from each other. (There is also a “Regional Mayor” covering All of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire with a fairly wide role in Planning and transport.
Burton Joyce Village Society will be making representations when we see which possibilities have any real prospects. Our readers can make their own ideas clear, to the Society and direct to the Councils. It is regrettable that under any scheme local factors and special circumstances are likely to have lower consideration, and any Councillors will represent much bigger areas with less coherent character. So it is important that we support and get involved in our Parish Council since it will play a greater role in representing your interest in future.
